Plan your journey by bus, train, coach, ferry or underground using Traveline which provides comprehensive public transport information for journeys in England, Scotland and Wales. Essex Travel Information also provides online information on public transport together with traffic news and details of road works. Information for all your transport needs can be accessed on the Essex County Council website.

The Travel Training Scheme run by Essex County Council is designed to compliment and enhance existing travel provision and to encourage and promote independence. It helps young people with special needs and adults with learning difficulties to develop skills to use public transport services. The Essex Community Directory, which contains information on travel, is an easy to read guide as to what is available in your local area and across Essex. All the information includes details about access for people who are disabled. It is produced in an easy read format using pictures, symbols and text which makes this an ideal resource for people with learning disabilities.

If you are over 60 or an eligible disabled person you may be entitled to free off-peak local bus travel anywhere in England. Directgov provides full details of the scheme and tells you how to claim your bus pass.

If you are 60 or over you can buy a Senior Railcard  which will give you savings on standard and first class train fares.

You may be able to apply for a disabled persons railcard if you have a disability that makes travelling by train difficult. Find out about the eligibilty criteria and how to apply on the Disabled Persons Railcard  website.

When you reach the age of 70 your driving licence entitlement will expire. If you want to continue to drive, the entitlement will need to be renewed by the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA). Directgov  provide details of how to apply for a renewal.
