Primary Care Trusts

Since 1999, GPs have been able to join together to form "primary care trusts or groups" along with other health professionals. They are given the funding to work together to plan and commission health services for their local community.

Primary Care Trusts are responsible for managing health services in your local area. They make sure all health services are provided, including hospitals, dentists, opticians, mental health services, NHS Direct, patient transport, population screening, pharmacies and opticians.
